Well I think anyone who tries to blog regularly finds themselfe at some point somewhere where they just don’t know what tor write. Well at least I do today.

So I’ll just lose a few words about London and what is happening there.
At the end of may I officially finished the three month of my placement at Active Webdezign. This does not mean that I have stopped working there but it means that the official 12 weeks of placement are over. However I have agreed to stay another couple of months, until August, and then take it from there.

Despite that, I am still on to explore more and more parts of London, which isn’t that easy becaus there is really not much time on the weekends to do so. Maybe I am just to lazy. I try to be more adventurous but the bed is so warm and cosy. Just don’t want to get up.

Annnd I’m flying home for the weekend next week. yeahhh. It’s going to be a couple of nice days.

So to everyone at home: prepare yourselves!

Blood Sweat & Takeaway is a tv-show available on British Television or on the BBC iPLayer website. Unfortunately it is just available to people acessing the BBC webseite with an UK IP-Address. So for all of you outside of the UK I have to say sorry (there might be a diffrent way but it is hard: google for uk proxy).

So, this TV-Show is about a few British guys, who are loving takeaway- and fast-food, traveling to Asia and working in diffrent places to experience the hard labour which has to be fullfilled to guarantee all the food luxuries whe have in our society.

It is really worth watching it and you might gain some awareness about the origin of our food.

You know all thise diffrent social networking websites right? Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, Delicious … just to name a few. Recently, while working on the new website for my company I had to implement such share buttons on the articles and blog-post page. To allow everyone to share those sites instantly.

So I mad my way into the net to find some nice solutions. What did I find: ShareThis, AddThis and a few others. But are the really useful, is really anyone using them to post a link to their facabook, delicious or whatever account? I am not really sure. Are they? Are You?

I personally have never klicked one of those links and I don’t really like the available solutions. The only one thing I like is the abillity of Twitterfox to directly post a link to your messaging editor.

So what are your experiences? Have you used them?

Do you know how much money your website is worth? No?

Well there is a nice tool available, which calculates the value of your domain. This could be a very handy tool if you want to sell your domain to someone else, or if you want to buy one. I don’t really know which parameters affect the value and how accurate the service is but if nothing else, at least it is fun.

As a few of you might already know: Adobe launched a new online application recently. Called Adobe Browser Lab which lets you test your website on diffrent Browsers on various operating systems. I had a quick look today but it didn’t really impressed me. First of all you can only choose from seven diffrent browser/operating system combination. It is limited to Firefox / Safari / IE on the operating systems Windows XP and Mac. Thats it. No Chrome, no IE8 no Windows Vista. And what about all the older systems? And Linux … and so on and so on. Secondly you get screenshots of your website only, so you can not test all the other behaviours. But it is fast. But thats the only positiv thing about it so far. Lets wait and see, maybe they are extending their service.

There are some other cross browser testing services out there you can choose from:

  • http://www.crossbrowsertesting.com - loads of diffrent browser types are support on a lot of operating system. includes IE8, Chrome, on Vista and Windows 7 Beta. you log on to a remote machine and can choose the browser then. for free use there is a session limit of 5 minutes which barley is enough to get the website displayed but in depends on your connection type of course
  • BrowserShots - it takes screenshot of your website. A huge amount of Browsers are available.

So whats your opinion on Adobe’s BrowserLab?

Adobe recently anounced a new application in the Flash Family: Adobe Flash Catalyst. But what is it?

Appearantly it is an kind of easy version of Flash without programming. So it enables flash access to people who are not able of developing but designing an application. For example you can have a designer creating an active application (including working buttons, mouseover effects and so on) without the need of writing a single line of Actionsript-code.

Once the designer is done, the application is passed on to the developer, who connects it with a database or what ever neccesary.

Thats the theory behind it. So far. Unfortunately I haven’t had time to test it yet but I really will. You might get a blogpost describing my experiences with Flash Catalyst later on.

Have you ever needed some Canon Camera Software like Canon EOS Utility but you couldn’t find the cd to install it and on the website you were just able to find an update?

No? I have already been twice in this situation and I found a solution for it: Basically you can just set a Key in the registry which enables the normal set up routine on the “Update Files”.

But read this blogpost to get further iinformation.

What do you think, how important it is to keep your website or blog free of spelling mistakes?

Well I can’t really tell, but I think it is an important issue, if you want to appear for example as serious business. Another issue might be SEO. If you have spelling mistakes in your content the people out there looking for it might not find it.

So be aware and check out this free (free for the first 1000 pages, but it wont charge youif you have more it will just skip them) Spell Checker.

Are you using any spellchecker for your site?

Well on Saturday I went shopping with Sonja and we choose, again, “Westfields Shopping Centre” which is apparently the largest in the UK (maybe even in Europe but I am not sure).
So here are some impressions:

Do you know these small addictive games on which you can spend hours and hours of playing. Yes?
There is another one for the iPhone. FlightControl. Basically you direct planes and helicopters to the runway, where they land. The more aircrafts you manage to land safely (without crashing into each other) the more points you get.

Its quite fun, and me and my girlfriend are already in a battle of the highscore.
